DENGUE FEVER

                                             
Dr.NISANTH PRABHAKARAN.  BAMS

  • By common toga virus infection transmitted by the bite of Aedes mosquito.

  • Incubation period – 7 to 10 days (can be longer).
  • Found throughout the tropics.

  CLINICAL FEATURES

Febrile illness lasts 3 to 7 days followed by a remission.

     ·        Associated with           - Fever

- Terrible body aches (BREAK BONE)

- Pharyngitis

- Haemorrhage

- Shock

·        Rash in remission period or in Second febrile phase.
  -  Maculopapular-Appears first on the hands and feet and spread to arms,       legs                                                                                     
 - Petechial- Trunks and neck, usually spraying the face.

·        Death seen in case of Dengue hemorrhagic fever and Dengue shock syndrome

                                     DIAGNOSIS

·  In travellers recently returned from endemic areas

·  Leukopenia is characteristic.

·  Thrombocytopenia is common in hemorrhagic form.

·  Rapid serological testing is available. ( Dengue IgG, IgM ).
