DENGUE FEVER

CLINICAL FEATURES
Febrile illness
lasts 3 to 7 days followed by a remission.
·
Associated with - Fever
- Terrible body
aches (BREAK BONE)
- Pharyngitis
- Haemorrhage
- Shock
·
Rash in remission period or in Second febrile phase.
- Maculopapular-Appears first on the hands and feet and spread
to arms, legs
- Petechial- Trunks and neck, usually spraying the face.
·
Death seen in case of Dengue hemorrhagic fever and
Dengue shock syndrome
DIAGNOSIS
·
In travellers recently returned from endemic areas
·
Leukopenia is characteristic.
·
Thrombocytopenia is common in hemorrhagic form.
·
Rapid serological testing is available. ( Dengue IgG,
IgM ).
